WOX Motor Makes a Bold Entry into Kenya with an Integrated Electric Mobility Ecosystem
WOX Motor enters Kenya with passenger EVs, electric Matatu and commercial platforms, solar-assisted mobility and integrated charging solutions.
PRESS RELEASE
Global mobility technology meets local execution as WOX Motor and WOX Kenya prepare passenger EVs, commercial vehicles, electric Matatu solutions, solar-assisted mobility and integrated charging infrastructure for the Kenyan market.
22 September 2026 — NAIROBI, KENYA
WOX Motor, the global electric mobility and technology company, is entering the Kenyan market through WOX Kenya, its exclusive authorised distributor and market development platform operated by Rockwill Green Energy East Africa Ltd. The programme brings together passenger EVs, commercial vehicles, electric Matatu solutions, solar-assisted mobility and integrated charging infrastructure under a single operational framework — positioning Kenya as a strategic growth market for WOX Motor in East Africa. WOX Motor Kenya, electric mobility and Matatu electrification are at the centre of this long-term commitment.
Kenya Becomes a Strategic East African Growth Market for WOX Motor
Kenya's new-vehicle market recorded 13,583 units in 2025, representing approximately 19.7% growth over the prior year, according to data citing the Kenya Motor Industry Association. Commercial vehicles, pickups and buses account for a significant share of that volume. Against this backdrop, Kenya's 2026 National Electric Mobility Policy — announced by the Ministry of Roads and Transport — and a cumulative EV fleet that grew from 1,378 units in 2022 to 39,324 by 2025 (Kenya Ministry of Roads and Transport) signal a market in active transition.
For WOX Motor, Kenya is not simply a sales destination. It is a platform for building an integrated mobility ecosystem that addresses the country's specific transport, energy and infrastructure realities.
A Near-10% Share by 2028 Is the Long-Term Goal
WOX Motor is targeting a near-10% share by 2028 and a double-digit share by 2029, measured against the latest full-year new-vehicle market benchmark available when the plan was prepared. These are forward-looking targets, not guaranteed outcomes. Actual market performance will depend on product homologation, market conditions, infrastructure development and the pace of EV adoption in Kenya.
Electric Matatu Solutions Designed Around Routes, Capacity and Operating Economics
Kenya's Matatu sector — the backbone of urban and peri-urban public transport, organised through SACCOs and owner-operator networks — represents one of the most compelling opportunities for fleet electrification in East Africa. KNBS 2024 provisional data records 1,441 new minibus/Matatu registrations and 1,452 bus/coach registrations in that year alone.
WOX Kenya's approach is not to offer a single vehicle and expect operators to adapt. Instead, each solution begins with a route assessment: daily mileage, passenger demand, dwell time, charging window and total cost of ownership. The vehicle follows the mission.
The platforms being evaluated for Kenyan Matatu, shuttle, SACCO and public-transport applications include:
- WOX Elara Series: Right-hand-drive-compatible electric passenger platforms with 10–17 seat configurations, an indicative range of approximately 400 km and an 86.55 kWh CATL LFP battery. Suitable for Matatu, hotel, tourism, campus and structured transport operations. Final Kenya configuration is subject to order, homologation and route analysis.
- WOX City Series: A 6.99-metre, 15+1 seat platform with capacity for up to 33 passengers and an indicative test-cycle range of approximately 270 km. Positioned for dense urban and feeder-route operations, subject to project evaluation.
- WOX Metro: A configurable electric city bus platform adaptable to door layout, passenger capacity, battery and charging requirements. Suited to higher-capacity urban transit and SACCO projects.
- WOX Horizon: A 12.5-metre, 49-passenger-plus-driver RHD electric coach for intercity, tourism and long-distance corporate transport projects.
For Matatu operators and SACCOs, the potential benefits include reduced exposure to fuel-price volatility, more predictable energy costs, lower total operating cost potential at high daily utilisation, route-aligned charging planning, and depot or terminal-based solar PV and battery storage. These outcomes depend on route profile, load, speed, climate, electricity tariff and charging infrastructure, and are not guaranteed.
WOX Kenya will conduct route and fleet assessments before recommending a platform, and will support operators with local service, spare parts and high-voltage technical training.
Solar-Assisted EVs Bring Energy and Mobility Together
Kenya's electricity generation mix is approximately 80% renewable, according to EPRA's June 2025 statistics report — one of the highest proportions in sub-Saharan Africa. This makes the case for electric mobility in Kenya not only about emissions reduction, but also about reducing dependence on imported fuel, lowering operating costs and managing fuel-price volatility.
WOX Zeny is positioned in Kenya as a solar-assisted compact EV for urban mobility, ride-hailing and fleet use.
The solar roof panel supplements charging; it does not replace grid or AC charging, and range claims should not be interpreted as solar-only operation.
Rockwill Green Energy East Africa Ltd brings solar EPC, battery storage and project development capability to WOX Kenya, enabling vehicles, charging and energy to be planned within a single operational framework. First-phase charging projects are being advanced in Narok and Wote, with proposed systems incorporating 120 kW charging, 200 kW solar PV and 480 kWh battery storage. These projects are subject to permits, engineering finalisation and project milestones.
Charging infrastructure today is concentrated around Nairobi. WOX Kenya sees this as an opportunity: solar-supported regional charging projects can extend the operational range of electric fleets beyond the capital.
From Passenger Cars to Pickups, Cargo Vehicles and Electric Buses
WOX Motor's Kenya portfolio spans multiple segments:
- WOX Nebula: A premium electric SUV with 420 km WLTP range, 63.8 kWh LFP battery, 150 kW peak power and a right-hand-drive option.
- WOX Nova One and Nova Pulse: Accessible electric passenger vehicles for urban mobility.
- WOX Pixel: A compact SUV platform with multiple powertrain options.
- WOX Thamud F22 EV: An electric pickup prioritised for Kenya, suited to commercial and corporate fleet applications.
- WOX Carry Series: Electric commercial platforms with multiple body configurations for last-mile delivery, market distribution, hotel supply, agriculture, landscaping and warehouse logistics.
Specifications, powertrain options, pricing and availability are subject to final configuration, homologation and project requirements.
Executive Statements
The following are draft executive quotes prepared for publication, subject to final approval.
"Kenya is not simply another market entry for WOX Motor. It is a strategic opportunity to connect vehicles, public transport, charging and renewable energy within one mobility ecosystem. Our ambition is to grow responsibly, build local capability and earn a meaningful share of Kenya's new-vehicle market through products designed around the country's real mobility needs."
"From solar-assisted urban EVs to electric Matatu and commercial platforms, we want technology to follow the mission. Kenya's renewable-energy strength and entrepreneurial transport sector make it one of the most compelling mobility markets in East Africa."
Mahmut Ulubaş, CEO, WOX Motor International
"Kenyan transport operators do not need a one-size-fits-all electric vehicle. A Matatu or SACCO solution must begin with the route, passenger demand, daily mileage, charging window and operating economics. WOX Kenya will combine that operational assessment with vehicles, charging, solar energy, storage and local support."
"Our focus is local execution. We are preparing customer engagement, fleet assessment, dealer development and Nairobi-based aftersales capability so that the journey continues well beyond the vehicle handover."
Tonny Mutuku, CEO, WOX Kenya
