Cleaning the Solar Panels

Dust, bird droppings, pollen and other debris accumulate on the panel surface over time, reducing the amount of light that reaches the solar cells. Regular cleaning maintains solar output. The recommended approach is to clean the panels with a soft cloth or sponge and clean water. Avoid abrasive materials, harsh chemicals or high-pressure water jets that could scratch or damage the panel surface.

Cleaning Frequency

Cleaning frequency depends on the environment. In dusty environments — such as desert regions or near construction sites — more frequent cleaning is required. In urban environments with regular rainfall, rain can help clean the panels between manual cleaning sessions. A general guideline is to inspect the panels monthly and clean when visible soiling is present.

Visual Inspection

Periodically inspect the panel surface for signs of damage — cracks, chips, delamination, discolouration or moisture ingress. Any visible damage should be reported to an authorised WOX service centre. Do not attempt to repair solar panel damage without professional guidance.

Electrical System Checks

The solar electrical system — controller, wiring and connections — should be inspected as part of regular vehicle servicing. A qualified technician should check that the solar controller is functioning correctly and that all electrical connections are secure. If the vehicle provides solar generation data, monitor this data for unexpected drops that may indicate a system fault.

Long-Term Performance

Solar panels degrade slowly over time — a process known as degradation. Most silicon solar cells lose a small percentage of efficiency per year under normal operating conditions. This degradation is gradual and typically not noticeable in day-to-day use. Keeping the panels clean and undamaged is the most effective way to maintain long-term performance.
