Autonomous Logistics for
Airport Operations
WOX Relay handles cargo, catering, maintenance supplies and inter-terminal transport autonomously — reducing ground crew dependency and improving operational throughput across controlled airside and landside zones.
The Complexity of Airport Ground Logistics
Airports operate under intense time pressure. Every delayed cargo transfer, missed catering delivery or supply bottleneck has a direct impact on aircraft turnaround times and passenger experience. Manual ground logistics is expensive, difficult to scale during peak periods and creates unnecessary contact points in controlled zones.
Inter-terminal cargo and parcel transfers require dedicated manual labour across large distances
Catering and consumable delivery to gates is time-critical and difficult to staff consistently
Maintenance supply movement between stores and aircraft stands creates operational delays
Manual logistics in controlled airside zones increases access complexity and security risk
Fleet visibility is limited — managers cannot see where vehicles and supplies are in real time
Autonomous inter-terminal cargo and parcel transfer on pre-mapped routes
Catering and consumable delivery to gate areas on scheduled or on-demand missions
Maintenance supply transport between stores, hangars and aircraft stands
Staff supply and equipment movement across large terminal buildings
Real-time fleet visibility — every vehicle, every mission, every battery level
Remote operations support for complex or unfamiliar situations
Geofenced operation within defined airside and landside zones
Integration with airport logistics management systems via open APIs
How WOX Relay Supports Airport Operations
WOX Relay operates on pre-mapped routes within defined airport zones — terminals, cargo areas, maintenance facilities and landside logistics corridors. Missions are assigned through the WOX Fleet Management Platform and executed autonomously, with remote supervision available at all times.
Typical Airport Mission Workflow
Mission Created
A logistics operator or integrated system creates a delivery mission — specifying origin, destination and cargo type.
Vehicle Assigned
The WOX Fleet Platform assigns the nearest available Relay vehicle with sufficient battery for the mission.
Cargo Loaded
Cargo is loaded into the Relay compartment. The operator confirms loading and the mission is authorised.
Autonomous Transit
Relay navigates autonomously along the pre-mapped route, detecting and responding to obstacles in real time.
Delivery Confirmed
On arrival, the recipient confirms delivery. The mission is logged with a full audit trail.
Return or Next Mission
Relay returns to base or proceeds to the next queued mission. Battery status is monitored continuously.
Operational Benefits for Airports
No shift limits or fatigue — Relay operates continuously with AI-managed charging schedules
Repetitive transport routes handled autonomously, freeing staff for higher-value tasks
Every vehicle, mission and battery level visible in real time from a single dashboard
Reliable, on-time delivery of catering and supplies reduces gate delays
Every mission logged with timestamps, route data and delivery confirmation
Start with a pilot fleet and scale as operational confidence grows
Designed for Controlled Environments
WOX Relay is designed for operation within defined, controlled areas — campuses, facilities, industrial zones and managed outdoor environments. All autonomous capabilities are subject to site conditions and applicable local regulations.
Availability of specific features may vary by configuration and market. Contact WOX for details applicable to your location.
Multi-sensor obstacle detection — cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors
Automatic speed reduction in pedestrian areas and congested zones
Emergency stop capability — vehicle halts immediately if required
Geofenced operation — Relay stays within defined airport zones at all times
Remote operator assistance available for complex situations
All autonomous operations subject to applicable airport regulations and site approval
Integrated Charging Infrastructure
WOX Relay integrates with WOX Charging infrastructure — 250 kW, 600 kW and 720 kW stations — to support continuous fleet operation. The WOX Fleet Platform manages charging schedules automatically, ensuring vehicles are available when needed. Battery storage and solar integration options are available for energy-resilient airport deployments.
From Site Survey to Go Live
WOX provides end-to-end deployment support for airport operations — from initial site survey and route mapping through to fleet commissioning and operator training. A typical airport deployment is operational within 7–10 weeks. WOX engineers work with airport operations teams to ensure compliance with site-specific requirements and applicable regulations.
